A biconvex lens has a positive focal length and can also focus parallel light beams. Due to the fact that both the front and rear surfaces of the biconvex lens are convex spheres with equal curvature radii, in applications where the distances between objects and images are equal or approximately equal, the biconvex lens can significantly reduce spherical aberration, as well as improve coma and distortion. When the conjugate ratio is between 5:1 and 1:5, the aberration introduced by the biconvex lens is minimized.
